Kindergarten: Draw a hopscotch path outside. Put different addition number sentences in each box, but don't solve them! ( ex. 5+1, 4+2, 9+1) and solve as you hop into each square! (No outside space? Draw on pieces of paper and make a path in your house!)
First Grade: Practice your doubles! Draw a hopscotch path outside and put the numbers 1-9 in each square. As you jump double the number. (ex. if you jump on 9, think about what is 9+9? say it before jumping to next square).
Second Grade: Number Grid practice! You guys know how important using a number grid is when solving math problems, can you make your own with chalk? Do this by creating 10 rows and 10 columns, then place your numbers in each box and writing the numbers 1-100 in each square---or go even higher, you've made them up to 1000 on your number scrolls in school! What games could you play with your number grid? Check the More Math tab for some ideas!
Third Grade: Guess the volume, we were working on volume in our last unit before Spring Break, can you find different containers and try to figure out which has the greatest volume? This would be a fun activity to do with different sized buckets outside. Remember you are a mathematician can you prove through mathematical explanations, which has the greatest volume? Tell someone how you know!
Fourth Grade: Practice those multiplication facts! Can you create a number path outside with all the multiplication facts you know? Maybe start with all the x2, then x3, all the way up to x12. Practice them by just writing the fact without the product, then as you walk/jump into each square solve them. (See picture below for example)
Fifth Grade: Coordinate and Grid practice... practice your coordinate and grids with a game of driveway battleship. Create a gameboard with chalk (two for you, two for your partner--make sure you can't see each others). You will need 10 rows across labeled 1-10 and 10 columns labeled A-J. On one gameboard each shade 1 square, 2 squares together, 3 squares together, 4 squares together, and 5 squares together. Each partner will try to guess where their opponents ship is and sink it. On each turn guess coordinates if your opponent says yes part of their ship is in that square, put a smiley face in that square, if they say no put an X, try to see who can sink their opponents ships fastest! (See picture for gameboard sample).
