Hey Valley Park Families! To all our first time visitors WELCOME! be sure to scroll down on this page AND check the "More Math" tab, did you know we add new math games EVERY WEEK? We are SO excited for the games we have planned for today. We hope you love them as much as we do. Don't forget to comment on today's Facebook post all the Games you do today! Have fun....
For today's games:
- Make your own number game…Write your numbers 0-20 on pieces of paper, the size of playing cards, and then on a second set of cards draw/stamp/place stickers for each number. Turn all the cards over and try to find a matching pair.
- Place value game--take turns with a parent thinking of a 2-digit number. Give the number of tens and number of ones and have your parent guess the number.. “ I am thinking of a number with 5 tens and 3 ones. What’s my number?” (Can you challenge yourself, by asking in different ways? “I am thinking of a number with 2 tens and 11 ones”).
- Makes 10s Memory--Grab a deck of card (remove Kings & Jacks, keep Aces they will equal 1 and Queens will equal 0) and turn them all over two at a time to find a pair that makes ten (example 4 and 6, 4+6=10). If you get a pair keep the cards and take another turn! (For extra fun do extension facts and find a sum equal to 100, example 4 and 6 = 40+60…40+60=100..thats a match!)
- Mystery Puzzle-click here to download a mystery puzzle, solve the facts in each square, then drag the picture with the product over to the correct factor pairs. This should download as a Powerpoint! You will need to click "enable editing" to move the pieces.
- Pull out a board game the involves rolling a dice, every time you roll the dice multiply the number by a set factor before moving number of spaces, (example prior to starting the game pick 1 factor, like 9. If you roll a 6 multiply 6x9, say your product, and check that it is correct before moving your 6 spaces. You can pick a new product for each round of the game)
- The Right Price Game: For two to four players, you need: 3 dice, deck of playing cards with face cards removed (ace = 1) How to play: Deal six cards to each player and place the rest face down in a draw pile. The first player rolls the dice and uses the numbers to decide a price. (For example, a 2 ,3 and 5 can be $235 or $523.) The other players use the cards in their hand to form a product that comes as close to the price as possible without going over. The player with the closest product scores 12 points. If there is a tie, the players divide the points evenly. Used cards are discarded, and new cards are drawn. Continue play until the deck is gone. The player with the highest score wins. (3rd graders can play with 2 dice to form a 2 digit number!)
