Hello everyone and welcome to another week of distance learning! I thought I would take a moment this week to ask you to think and talk about WHAT MAKES A MATHEMATICIAN! All of you know that we teachers think of each of you as a mathematician! During this Distance Learning time frame, we can still be applying all of those wonderful skills that make YOU a mathematician!
Parents, take a look at this poster- these are some of the guiding thoughts and language we use when helping students develop into mathematicians. Then, take a look below for some more activities by grade level band.
Kindergarten
Take a took at the link below. This lesson includes what we call “quick images” on a ten frame. Although it is through the Dreambox website, it is not part of your child’s regular lessons. See if your child is ready to practice identifying 5’s and 10’s quickly!

Grades 1-2
Place Value Scavenger Hunt
Go through various places in your house and look for numbers! Magazines, books, newspapers, cookbooks, shampoo bottles... everywhere!
You do not need to have a printer for this, but if you do, that’s great! This is an awesome activity from primarythemepark.com that has some great leveled options for math place value scavenger hunts to do in your home.
If you do not have a printer, simply name a place value and a number- for example, “show me a number with a 3 in the tens place” and your child can go looking!

Grade 3
Play “Roll to 1,000”!
Attached below
I’d love to see you play this version---- and if that doesn’t work for your family, then you can try the electronic version on your EM games.
Do you have dice at home? If not, can you login to your EM account and use the dice in your eToolkit? You can do this! Nice job staying focused on playing these games!
Grade 4
I know it’s tough to stay focused right now… but this week I’d love for you to think about NUMBER STORIES! EVERYTHING is a number story--- tell one!
See the below activity… but even beyond that—take a moment to tell someone in your family a number story about a real life situation! Can you do it? Can they solve it? Write it out or even video it, and SEND it to me!
